and I have people climbing my case for not having things complete which required information from them that I had to ask for. Which asking they then griped about, too. When's Friday?

half of my job lately is trying to find information that either nobody knows, or is in German somewhere. I know the feeling. Oh you want that done, but you don't know how you want it done, and you don't know what the requirements are? Sure, I'll get right on that.

The best part: I did not have a schedule on when stuff was due. The customer did. This would be fine had I not had several other things dumped in my lap to clear off before I could get back to biz on this project. Customer also could not communicate if equipped with three Yale grads, an interpreter, and a linotype machine.

That's rough. Have a beer when you get home, and try your best to forget about it.

The extra extra fun part is that I seem to know more about what the project requirements are than he does, so if I fuck up reading something, *he can't correct me*. Which would be fine if that couldn't have bad results, but it definitely could. In fact, I think it is. Right now.

that is the point where I like to pull a cover my ass move and alert someone higher of the fucked up situation before it becomes " your fault ."

Higher up in this case has *somewhat* helped disentangle things. The other somewhat is
due to us being in the position of "interpreting" their requirements doc.

does the "requirements doc" happen to be a napkin scribble and a quick chat?

No such luck - 12 pages. Portions of which we're ignoring for reason and telling them so. Still better than the one last year with the 16 page summary in tiny font referring to about 50 pages+ scattered through a document with about a thousand pages...

yeah, that second one sounds about like what I am working with. Some mentions of the product I need to test in a test spec for another product. Half of the mentions of said product say TBD.
